Lakes

Whiskeytown Lake is supplied by several Redding area creeks and rivers, and is favored by local residents. With the natural beauty of the clear water (visible down to 30 feet), abundant wildlife, and majestic scenery, that's understandable. For those interested in fishing, the lake includes smallmouth, spotted, and largemouth bass, rainbow and brown trout, and kokanee salmon. Whiskeytown has a richness of wildlife that makes camping, swimming, boating, and waterskiing are among the favorite Whiskeytown activities.

Nestled in the arm of the Sacramento River, Shasta Lake is a great place to go for Redding things to do. There are a variety of fishing, wakeboard, waterski, music, and festival activities to appeal to nature lovers.

Rivers

Starting in the Cascade Range mountains, the Sacramento River is the longest river contained in the state of California. Due to its length, most guides split the river into two parts when describing its attractions - the Upper Sacramento River and the Lower Sacramento River. The Upper Sacramento River is best known for its rafting and kayaking, while the Lower Sacramento has the best fly fishing and tailwater fisheries in the country.

Hiking

With more than 40 different trails open in the summer months, Lassen Volcanic National Park is a hikers dream. People travel from all across the country to the top of Lassen Peak, one of the world's largest plug dome volcanoes. . Campsite and wilderness camping are also popular activities, although, wilderness camping requires a free wilderness permit (available through the park's website, for overnight stays.

Mount Shasta stands alone, unconnected to any other nearby mountain. Joaquin Miller described the solitary mountain this way: "Lonely as God, and white as winter moon, Mount Shasta starts up sudden and solitary from the heart of the great black forests of Northern California." The towering beauty and isolation of the mountain make it a popular place for experienced hikers and skiers.

Another feature of Redding California is Exploration Park, whose goal is to educate visitors of all ages about the environment using the many lovely gardens, exhibits, and programs that they have to offer. One of these is the McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Comprised of 20 acres of Mediterranean-climate display gardens that include a medicinal garden, children's garden, patio gardens, water gardens, and the lovely butterfly garden, just to name a few.

Teddy Roosevelt called Burney Falls "The Eighth Wonder of the World", a fact that illustrates the majestic beauty of this 129-foot cascading fall that is well worth the trip to see.

It is particularly impressive that the few issues customers had (and there are much fewer than other hotels on the list) were immediately responded to by hotel staff and resolved. That is good managing.

There are several Redding area "must eat at" restaurants. For quality and variety, Cattlemen's Restaurant, Nello's Place, Moonstone Bistro, Janya Thai Cuisine, and Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant are all well worth a visit.
